FAQs

We consider many factors when determining recognition, and what we consider specifically varies by recognition category. Some of those factors include:

  • Strength of response rate
  • IQ completion
  • Scores by survey dimensions
  • Scores by survey demographics
  • Key barometer statement data
  • Benefits data
  • Narrative data from both the faculty/staff survey and the IQ

We do not release the names of participating institutions unless they are recognized as a Great College to Work For.

You can find descriptions of each recognition category on this website.

The Honor Roll distinction goes to the top 10 four-year colleges and the top 4 two-year colleges recognized the greatest number of times in each enrollment size category (“small” institutions have fewer than 3,000 student, “medium” institutions have between 3,000 and 9,999 students, and “large” institutions have 10,000 or more students.

Participating institutions are notified by email about whether they have been recognized in June of each year, and the official list of recognized institutions is published every September in a special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education, as well as on GreatCollegesList.com.
